Oxford Brookes Poems of the Week

This year Worple are delighted to be part of Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre’s Poem of the Week initiative, which is emailed to subscribers as well as being archived online.  Worple poems which have featured in 2013 include Anthony Wilson’s ‘On Speaking to One Another from Different Rooms’ from Riddance, ‘On a Forbidden Star’ by Janos Pilinszky, translated by Clive Wilmer and George Gomori, John Freeman’s ‘Orpheus, Just Checking’, from A Suite for Summer, and more recently Andy Brown’s ‘Slippage’ from 2001’s Of Science, co-written with David Morley.  The choice of Andy’s poem highlights the Poetry Centre’s strong interest in poetry and science, one of many ongoing projects that include poetry and the environment, poetry and business, and performance poetry in Oxfordshire. The Poetry Centre, based within the Department of English and Modern Languages, was launched in 1998, and hosts an annual programme of events, such as conferences, research seminars, workshops, exhibitions, and community projects.
